Sarla was born on October 14th, 1959. Sarla's father was Jentilal Maganlal Raghuvanshi and her mother was Hansakumari bai Kessaugi Waghela. Her paternal grandparents were Maganlal Harakchand Raghuvanshi and Narmada Parmanand Waghela; her maternal grandparents are Kessaugi Kanji Waghela and Jekor Bai Narotam Jadav. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Kirit, Ashok, Pradip, Ranjana and Bhavna. She is the second oldest of the six children.
